Roe Hughes Sr. Obituary (1936 - 2023)

Roe Nell Hughes, Sr., 86, life long resident of Alamo, died March 21, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 11 AM-1 PM at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo, TN. William Norrid will be affricating the service with funeral immediately following in the Ronk Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Cypress Cemetery. Roe Nell was born October 11, 1936 in Alamo, the second son of Ezra and Maie Bell Hughes. Roe Nell graduated from Alamo High School in 1954, and married Gretta Ann Leggett in 1957, and to this union two children, Victoria Elaine and Roe, Jr., were born. Roe Nell, along with his father and brother, ran the Gulf service station in Alamo before starting Hughes Plumbing and Electric which Roe Nell owned and operated until his retirement in 1999. Roe Nell served the City of Alamo as a member of the board of aldermen for decades before retiring from public service and spending his later retirement years traveling with Gretta, attending the events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoying his passion of crappie fishing on Kentucky Lake. Roe Nell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gretta, daughter Vickie (Jack) of Alamo, son Roe Nell Hughes, Jr. (Andrea) of Dresden; four grandchildren- William Leggett Norrid (Ann Marie) of Greenfield, Paige Hughes Vaughn (Aaron) of Gleason, Sarah Beth Moore (Michael) of Lakeland, and Roe Nell Hughes III (Allison) of Sharon; and six great-grandchildren- Parker Kaye and Andi Claire Vaughn, Roe Nell Hughes IV and Wes Clarence Hughes, and Parker Jack and Leo Leggett Moore; brother- Casey Hughes, along with six nieces and nephews, many cousins, and a host of friends. He was a member of the Lebanon Church of Christ. Pallbearers for the service will be Roe Nell Hughes, Jr., Roe Nell Hughes III, Jack Norrid, Lionel Hughes, Bobby Goode, Aaron Vaughn, and Michael Moore. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Cypress Cemetery Fund or the charity of one's choice. There are no gallery images.
