River Lynn Hartley

–

Alamo, Tennessee

River Lynn Hartley, a beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away gently on July 25, 2026. Born to Russell and Bertha Garrett on June 10, 1938, in Fort Dodge, IA, River was a generous, loving, and supportive figure known for her unwavering devotion to her family. She was a beacon of warmth and love to all those who knew her. As a devout member of the Cairo Baptist Church, River lived her faith every day, extending her generosity and love to everyone she met.

River was a homemaker by profession, a role she embraced with compassion and dedication. She was also an avid reader and shopping enthusiast, but her love for travel, particularly to the mountains in Gatlinburg, was unmatched. As a member of the Gadsden Ruritan Club, River actively participated in community service, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Her life was a living testament to the verse in the Bible, "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." (Hebrews 13:16). Her family and especially her grandchildren were the heart and soul of her existence, and she showered them with unconditional love and support.

River is survived by her children Debby Carathers (Jim), Mark Hartley (Gina), and Stacey Stewart (Cheryl); her siblings Kenneth Garrett and Donna Dettman; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Bertha Garrett; her loving husband, Gary Hartley; and her daughters, Pam Nash and Cindi Thompson.

In keeping with River's wishes, cremation services are under the direction of Ronk Funeral Home, and no services are scheduled at this time.

We invite you to leave memories and upload photos of River to the memorial page, as a tribute to her generous spirit and loving heart. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.
