Lois Elaine Bartels

–

Humboldt, Tennessee

Lois Elaine Bartels, a beacon of love, inspiration, and unwavering support, passed away on February 25, 2025, in Humboldt, Tennessee. Born on November 14, 1935, in Butler, Indiana, Lois led a life that beautifully encapsulated her rural roots and her passion for caring for others. She was a loving farm girl at heart, who dedicated over forty years of her life to the noble vocation of nursing, first at Crockett County Health Department and subsequently at Humboldt General Hospital. Her life was a testament to the words of Maya Angelou who once said, "I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people."

Lois' charisma was captivating, and her heart was a wellspring of compassion. She found joy and solace in the simple things of life, from the meticulous art of quilting to the nurturing of plants in her garden. Lois also had a fondness for writing letters, a tradition she maintained in an era of digital communication. Her letters, filled with warmth and wisdom, are cherished keepsakes for those who received them. Lois and her beloved husband, Charlie, with whom she shared an inspiring journey of love since their marriage on August 18, 1957, also shared a passion for traveling. Together, they painted a canvas of memories across various landscapes, their love story echoing in every place they visited.

Lois' faith was an integral part of her life, and she attended the First Baptist Church in Alamo for many years. Yet, what mattered most to her was her family. She was a loving matriarch to her children, Lynda Holmes (Rick), Mark Bartels (Sherry), Kerry Bartels, and Holly Davis. She also embraced the role of caring grandmother to Amanda Holmes, Andrew Overcash (Kimberly), Tammy Bitner, Denise Smith (Tim), and Amy Alexander (Travis). Her legacy continues to thrive in the hearts of her numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Lois was the last living sibling in her family, preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marguerite Shull; her siblings, Carma Milleman, Clare Shull, Wayne Shull, Gerald Shull; and son-in-law, Phil Davis.

Cremation services are under the direction of Ronk Funeral Home. A memorial service to honor Lois's life will be held at a later time.

Lois' life was a tapestry of love, resilience, and dedication, each thread a testament to her wonderful spirit. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of Lois to the memorial page, to celebrate her life and the love she shared with us all.
