Jeffrey Glen Reece Obituary (1954 - 2016)

Graveside services for Jeffrey Glen Reece, age 61, will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, in the Nance church of Christ cemetery for family and friends @ 3:00 PM with Bill Mitchusson officiating. Jeff died May 06, 2016, at his home in Alamo, Tennessee. Mr. Reece was born in Jackson, Tennessee on May 23, 1954, the son of Charles Baker and Wanda Thornton Reece. He attended Alamo High School and graduated in 1972. He then enrolled in the University of Memphis majoring in Journalism. Upon graduation of U of M, Mr. Reece moved to New Orleans and accepted a job with the State of Louisiana. He later returned to Memphis and received his Master's Degree at U of M in City and Regional Planning in 1987. Mr. Reece's first job as a professional planner was with the planning firm, Harland Bartholomew & Associates in Memphis. He specialized in military master planning and worked on projects for the U.S. Army in Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, South Korea and Japan. He later worked for Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development specializing in environmental planning. He completed his professional career as an environmental planner for the Southwest Tennessee Development District in Jackson, Tennessee. He retired in 2014. Mr. Reece was a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the American Planning Association. His hobbies included genealogy, collecting books and antique furniture and following the University of Memphis Tigers. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Baker Reece; his paternal grandparents, Sol and Mozie Corbett Reece; his maternal grandparents, Claude and Gladys Boyd Thornton and a special uncle, William Boyd (Billy) Thornton. Mr. Reece is survived by his mother, Wanda Thornton Reece; one sister, Donna Reece Adams and her husband Scott Adams of Collierville, Tennessee; two nephews, David Adams and wife Amy Russell Adams of Chillicothe, MO.; Matt Adams and wife Emily Stirling Adams of Byhalia, MS.; two nieces Katie Adams of Hattiesburg, MS.; and Bonnie Adams Crass and husband Joe Crass of Wake Forrest, NC. He is also survived by five grand-nephews; Jacob and Joshua Adams of Chillicothe, Christian Adams of Byhalia, Tyler and Drew Crass of Wake Forest; and two grand-nieces, Ava Adams of Byhalia and Carly Crass of Wake Forest.
