Doris Laverne Spitzer

Doris Laverne (Wilson) Spitzer, age 88, of Bells, TN, passed away at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN on September 8, 2017.
Laverne was born on September 25, 1928 to George Neely and Mattie Theo Wilson. Most of her life was lived in Cypress Community near Bells, TN and was a member of Cypress Methodist Church. She was a gentle soul who loved her Lord and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Laudell Spitzer, and their daughter Elaine Spitzer Roberts.

Laverne was married to the love of her life, Marshall Laudell Spitzer, for 61 years until the time of his passing in 2007. The couple settled into a remodeled schoolhouse in the late 1940's, where they raised their six children; Marshall, Elaine, Steve, Dennis, Mike, and Christine.

She was a woman of great strength and character. A dedicated and hard working mother, she loved her family and the garden that she grew every year. She canned, cleaned, taught, and was an amazing cook. She was an artist, an inventor, a seamstress, wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother.
She was very proud of her family and always looked forward to holidays and other gatherings; any time with her family was precious to her. She spent many hours cooking and preparing for her ever growing family. We will miss her welcoming smile and gentle hugs, her stories, her thoughtful counsel, her humor, and the "favorite desserts" that she delighted in making for each of us.

Laverne leaves to honor her memory Marshall Spitzer and wife Barbara, Steve Spitzer and wife Renee, Dennis Spitzer and wife Linda, Mike Spitzer, and Christine Spitzer Prescott and husband Tony, 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Family and friends will gather at Cypress Methodist Church, 539 Cypress Church Road, Bells, TN on Monday, September 11. Family will gather from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Visitation will begin at 10:00, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00. Interment will be in Cypress Cemetery.
Reverends Steve Spitzer and Adam Roberts will officiate. Pall bearers are Andy Prescott, Drew Spitzer, Matthew Spitzer, Will Roberts, David Neal DeRocher, David DeRocher.
