Catherine Rose Nolen Young Obituary (1922 - 2018)

Catherine Rose Nolen Young, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Bells Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born to Mr. & Mrs. Jesse Pierce (Maude Worrell) Nolen on February 16, 1922 in Alamo, TN. She attended Alamo City Schools and graduated from Alamo High School in 1940. Mrs. Young was employed by the Halls Air Base during WWII. In the mid 1960's, she and her husband purchased and operated Alamo Jewelry Store for over thirty years until their retirement. Mrs. Young was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for more than fifty years and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was involved with the Twentieth Century Book Club, Relay for Life and several bridge clubs. Mrs. Young served as a Cub Scout den mother and was very proud that her three sons and six grandsons are Eagle Scouts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Jodie Thomas Young; one sister, Margaret Nolen Nichol; three brothers, Jesse Pierce Nolen, Jr., Tommy Gene Nolen, and Bobby Joe Nolen. She is survived by three sons, Steve Young and wife Nelda, and Gary Young and wife Shay, all of Jackson, and Stan Young and wife Lynn of Dyersburg, TN; eight grandchildren Rob Young and wife Maryalice of Raleigh, NC, Nolen Kirk Young of Nashville, TN, Haley Young, Reid Young and wife Ariane of Asheville, NC, Rachel Young of Nashville, TN, John Young and wife Whitney, David Young and Will Young, all of Dyersburg, TN; two great-grandchildren, Mary Catherine and Robert Steven (Tripp) Young III of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by one sister Dora Lee Davis. The family will receive friends and loved ones at a visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 31 at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo, TN. The funeral service will be on Friday, June 1 at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. at Alamo First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Alamo City Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
