Aileene Mayo Obituary (1921

Mrs. Aileene Mayo, Age 95, passed away February 3, 2017. She was born July 2, 1921 on the Lee Wilson Plantation, Wilson, Arkansas, at "Hickory Lake," the home of her parents, John King Wood and Edith Lillian Rapp Wood. When she was about 6 years old, her father became ill and she moved with her parents and 5 siblings to Millington, Tennessee. After his passing, her mother married Howard R. Fullerton, who became a loving and caring stepfather to her and her 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She graduated from Millington Central High School where she enjoyed playing saxophone in the band. Mrs. Mayo was a member of the Maury City Church of Christ and attended faithfully until she could not do so due to her health. Aileene was happiest when she was able to do things for others. She loved playing the piano for her friends at the Crockett County Nursing Home and enjoyed baking sour dough bread, rolls, and cakes to give for birthdays and to share with shut-ins. Mrs. Mayo was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paul Mayo, a native of Crockett County, who was a real estate broker in West Tennessee for many years. Surviving relatives include 4 children: Robert Owen Mayo (Alice) of Iuka, Mississippi; Frances Sexton (Paul) of Nashville; Dorothy Jones (Ralph) of Maury City, Tennessee; Helen Conley, Kingsport, Tennessee; Nine grandchildren: Sherri LaNell Mayo, Robert Mayo (Sally), Rock Mayo (Stacey), Lorie Newton (Cole), Paul Mayo (Heather) all of Memphis and Millington; Dr. Steve Mayo (Jaclyn) Kingsport, TN and John Sexton (Amanda) Brentwood, TN; Mrs. Mayo is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, 4 nephews, and 7 nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maury City Church of Christ or St. Jude's Hospital. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 07, 2017, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM in the chapel of Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo, Tennessee. Services will follow immediately at 1:00PM with Stephen Sutton officiating. Interment to follow at Nunn Cemetery near Maury City.
